What we ordered
Hubby is a professional photographer, so he’s hardly ever in the picture, and as our fourth baby has just arrived, we have very few pictures of all six of us. So I went for the compilation option and chose the following images:
I was super impressed with how the artist compiled our photo. Our finished photo proof looked like this:
I framed the photo and gave it to hubby as an early birthday present, but he had no idea that a large painting of this photo would grace him soon for his birthday.
Our order
I chose an Oil, 60 x 90cm, 6-people compilation portrait with the artist’s signature but opted out on the video on this occasion (I wish I hadn’t!). I selected the Express Service and the painting arrived just under a month after I placed the order.
How did we get on with the Paint your Life journey?
The website was very easy to navigate and the level of detail when composing your order was impressive. We were kept notified every step of the way, so we knew when each stage was complete, with quick and simple prompts from Paint your Life when they needed our input to progress onto the next stage.
There were a few hiccups on a couple of parts in the painting, which were minimal (just a couple of revisions). They were picked up and fixed quickly and I was very happy with the final result. In fact, I got a bit emotional seeing our family as a compilation painting – I’ve made a mental note to surprise other family members with compilation paintings on special birthdays/holidays from now on.
How much did our Paint your Life painting cost?
With all the extras we added to our order, our painting cost £522 in total. Using the link below, we could have reduced this cost to £472. There are other coupons on the website, so keep an eye out as Paint your Life always has offers for first-time buyers especially.

We were thrilled with hubby’s painting and give it a rating of 5 out of 5. There were a few issues with the painting in that my eyes were slightly distorted and one of the facial features looked strange. But the artist fixed these issues without complaint and the finished picture looked amazing!
Paint your Life reviews
So, is Paint your Life expensive? The better question would be, is Paint your Life worth it? Judging by my husband’s reaction, I would say, yes, it definitely is. I find it amazing that these artists can compile a digital photo of the family and transform their portraits to paintings which are good enough to hang on the wall.
Here are some more reviews and Paint your Life quotes of what clients thought of their paintings from pictures.
This service is absolutely amazing! The painting itself was perfect. The review process is simple, and the artist had no problems specializing our image to help make it more perfect. We also used the video service, which turned out amazing as well. We had a small issue with shipping, it took much longer than expected, but when we called customer service, they expedited everything and were very friendly and apologetic. The customer service made up for the issue and kept this review at 5 stars. Thank you Paint Your Life!
I cannot believe how amazing this painting is. I’m so grateful to paint your life. Will definitely be getting another painting soon.

Little Angels was created by a mother who struggled to find the information she needed from the shops she visited after the birth of her first child. So she created her own shop, which offered parents informative advice on top of the most-needed products to support their growing kids.
Little Angels is now a one-stop-shop for parents, selling over 50 brands and tons of products, sometimes on sale, including Moses baskets for baby. A new flagship store was opened in Nottingham in 2019.
A little about Clair de lune
Clair de lune produces nursery bedding collections, sheets and blankets, as well as a range of pushchair and car seat accessories for modern parents and their little ones.
What is the Clair de lune Wicker Moses Basket with Stand?
The Moses basket with mattress is a cocoon-like pod for baby to sleep from birth up to the maximum weight of 9kg (or until baby can roll over, pull themselves up or sit unaided). I would say the cutoff point to using the Noah Pod® would be around five months old.
The Noah Pod® is made in the UK and has Waffle cotton fabrics which are soft and breathable. The material is finished with star prints and a sleepy moon with an integrated hood which is made from handwoven, lightweight and sturdy wicker.
The Moses Basket or Noah Pod® also comes with an exclusive Wrapover® dressing, which pads and covers the edge of the wicker internally and externally so baby is kept comfortable and there are no sharp edges.
How much is the Moses Basket and Stand? What do you get in the package, and where can you buy Clair de Lune Wicker Moses Basket?
The Moses Basket and Stand bundle currently costs £166.48* and comes with two handles, coverlet, padded liner, and mattress. If you buy the bundle, you save £18.50*.
The bassinet can be bought on its own for £184.98* but you can buy the additional Moses Basket Stand for £22.49* if you buy with the Noah Pod®. If you buy separately, the price is £24.99*.
The Noah Pod® is also available in Blue, Grey and Pink and comes boxed and ready to use (only the stand needs building).
How long will Moses Baby Basket with Stand take to be delivered?
Little Angels offer free next day delivery if ordered after 2pm to all mainland UK addresses on orders over £50.00. However, if your order contains an “out of stock” item, then it will show the expected date in the order summary and Little Angels will try to stay within that timeframe.
If you order by 2pm on a working day, Little Angels will ship the product the same day.
All other orders will be subject to a delivery charge, which is £5.00 on orders under £50.00.
Little Angels can also deliver products internationally subject to their pricing policy and supplier limitations. You can find the delivery charges in Section 5.3 here,
Moses Basket Baby Bed with Stand size and specs
Fabric: 100% cotton filling
100% Polyester Dimensions: 76 x 29 x 45cm
You can remove the dress and machine wash at 40 degrees centigrade.
First impressions of the Moses Basket Bassinet with Stand
My first impression of the Noah Pod® is that it looks so stylish. The handwoven wicker adds a fairy tale touch to the Moses Basket. Baby Amelia looked safe and comfortable in her own little rocking baby crib.
Was the Clair De Lune Grey Wicker Noah Pod® Over the Moon with Grey Stand easy to use/put together?
It was very easy to set up. The Moses basket comes ready with a mattress and you can put together the rocking stand in minutes. The inserts are easy to place inside the basket and they felt very secure, so I wasn’t worried about excess material hanging over the baby.
How to use the Clair De Lune Grey Wicker Noah Pod® Over the Moon with Grey Stand
You place baby in the basket when they are sleeping or resting and you can rock baby to sleep using the stand’s rocking motion. You can also carry the Noah Pod® around the house as long as the baby isn’t inside. The basket is not designed for baby to be carried around in.
Was the Moses Basket and stand easy to use/comfortable?
The Noah Pod® was very comfortable for Amelia and she loved sleeping in the basket, often for long periods. Little Angels also provided us with some lovely linen sheets and blankets which are very soft and high quality, so they helped provide Amelia with good quality sleep.
What are the pros of using the Moses basket and stand?
The basket is light with long handles to help you move around the house, so baby can sleep in any room you are stationed. The stand rocks the basket gently without waking baby up, but if they’re unsettled, the rocking motion helps baby go back to sleep.
The premium quality design, comfortable inserts, and easy-to-assemble stand makes the Moses Basket a doddle to use, especially after birth when mum needs to sit/lay in certain positions in the house. You can place the Moses Basket by the bed and there’s no need to get up. It’s the right height for lifting baby in and out of the pod while you’re in bed.
What are the cons of using the Moses basket with stand?
Sometimes the handle straps can get in the way when you take baby in and out of the basket. They are perhaps a bit too long.
The baby can only really use the Moses basket until around five months, depending on their size, so it has a short shelf life before baby needs to move onto a larger bedside crib or a cot. The basket can become a little narrow, which may not be so comfortable for them when they are older.
Are Moses Baskets with Stands worth the money?
Moses baskets for babies are the perfect transition from womb to cot and I’ve used them for all four of my children. They’re small enough to mimic the tiny space of the womb so that baby feels safe and not overwhelmed by the grandeur of a cot so soon after birth. They’re normally cheaper than other baby beds, but that is because the period in which the baby can use them is shorter. But they are definitely worth the money.
The Moses Basket is easy to use. Simply place the basket on the stand (make sure it slots into place properly) and then baby is ready to go. The inserts are simple to take off and wash. The handles can sometimes impede carrying the basket around or taking baby out, but it’s only a minor issue.
4 out of 5
Fits the purpose
The Moses Basket helps baby transition from womb to bassinet with as little trauma as possible. We have always used Moses Baskets for the first four to five months because we found it the easiest to help baby sleep at night. With three of my four births involving some birth trauma, I particularly found the Moses basket useful because I could place it wherever I was stationed and recovering.
5 out of 5
Style and comfort
The Moses basket has a beautiful grey woven basket that just glides effortlessly with the nursery decor. It looks like a little angel’s palace.
4 out of 5
Controls/functionality
If it’s possible, a little baby changing basket, or storage basket / shelf would work inside the stand, but otherwise it’s used for simplicity and simple is what it is. No gimmicks, no gizmos, just a bassinet for baby to sleep in.
4 out of 5
Value for money
A touch pricey but definitely worth the price when you pair it with premium quality material which keeps baby secure.
5 out of 5
What is my overall opinion of the Clair de Lune Grey Wicker Noah Pod® Over the Moon Wicker Moses Basket with Rocker Stand?
The Wicker Noah Pod® is a premium quality Moses basket with an affordable price tag. Amelia slept comfortably in it for five months and, even though the handles were sometimes a bit of a nuisance, all the material used was such high quality that I never feared for her safety.
Considering the time baby spends sleeping in a Moses basket, it was worth the price. We added black and white patterns so baby could play in the basket too. Perhaps some lower-priced options could offer the same functionality, but if it’s premium quality you’re looking for, then this is the basket for you.
Divorce is difficult for everyone, and when you have the feelings of young children to consider too, it can be doubly challenging.
Legal advice from family lawyers like Wiselaw will establish your legal position for shared parenting, but what about guidance on supporting your child during the process? Although children need love and support during these troubled times, how to tell your kids about a divorce is based on some routine things you can expect and basic tips to follow to help you through this time. We’ve compiled some basic pointers on how to tell your kids about divorce.
‘If you love someone and you break up, where does the love go?’ Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City
What is divorce?
Divorce is the process of terminating a marriage or marital union. Divorce usually entails the canceling or reorganising of the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage, thus dissolving the bonds of matrimony between a married couple under the rule of law of the particular country or state.
How do you tell your child about divorce without breaking them?
The collateral damage suffered by children when couples split up varies from family to family and depends on several factors. How they react depends on what to tell your child about divorce, their age, their personalities, and the particular circumstances in which the divorced parents find themselves.
Unfortunately, the stress of divorce is experienced by thousands of children every year and it is in everyone’s interests to make the painful journey more bearable. Initially, when considering how to tell kids about separation, parents must consider the wide range of emotions the kids will go through, i.e. sadness, helplessness, loneliness, anger, and betrayal. But, if handled properly, a newfound strength and inner resolve can derive from the healing process. Therefore, it is so important you know how to tell your child about divorce in the proper way.
What you can expect from your child after divorce
Very young children aged between 18 months to five years can regress into behaviours typical of a younger age group as a coping mechanism for the stress they’re feeling. Going back to using a dummy, wetting the bed, or becoming clingier with either or both parents is quite normal if this is the case.
Young children and babies are tuned into their parents’ emotions even though they cannot verbalise this. Over time, they will understand the decision you made, but this won’t happen straight away. A young child growing up with divorcing parents will be scared.
When to tell your child about divorce – The first bit is the hardest
The initial stages of a divorce, whether that’s a year or even two years, are often the time when it’s hardest for children. The changes that happen during this period, for example, one parent moving out of the family home, are a big shift in a child’s world and they can react by experiencing anxiety, anger and shock.
Go to them first before they suspect – talking to kids about divorce first
No child wants to hear that their parents no longer love each other, but they may have guessed that for themselves if public rowing has taken place. So it is better to come from you than to leave them second guessing or, worse still, get the wrong end of the stick.
As hard as it may sound, try to come to an agreement with your partner/spouse about how to talk to your kids about divorce and be as consistent as you can with your message. If possible, both of you should be present when you sit down to discuss things with your child/children. and try to pre-empt some questions you may get asked so that you are fully prepared because, in an emotional situation like this, it is easy to go ‘off message’. When thinking about how to talk to your child about divorce, explain what the stages of divorce for a child would mean, but don’t overwhelm them.
National Charity Place2Be and National Association of Teachers (NAHT) state that more must be done by the Government to help protect the mental health of children during a divorce. There seems to be a notable increase in pupils experiencing low self-esteem and depression.
How to tell children about divorce – Toddlers
Toddlers will need support from parents by creating and sticking to solid routines to provide comfort and safety. A child’s primary bond is with their parents at this stage, so big changes can have a profound effect and a small child may look inwards to find a reason for their parent’s divorce. As a result, they can have sleeping problems and fear being alone. As well as a predictable schedule, parents should plan to spend one-on-one time their child, for example, playing a game or reading a book together, focussing all efforts on that child.
How to tell kids about divorce – 3 – 5 years
Some pre-schoolers may feel responsible for what has happened and concerned about what is going to happen in the future. It’s common for children at this age to experience nightmares and bottled-up emotions too. Although divorce can present challenges, parents should try to adopt a positive approach and avoid blame and negativity, as children will pick up on these emotions.
How to talk to children about divorce – Older children
Older children are going through their own growth pains and can often experience a fluctuation of emotions. They may be old enough to understand the reasons behind divorce, but they are still too young to compartmentalise that the divorce isn’t about them and you don’t love them any less. It’s important at this stage to not place blame, invite questions and give them time to get their head around it all.
What else you can do to support your child during divorce – How to divorce without hurting your child
When a young child is feeling anxious or uncertain about the future, it can help to explain what has happened using simple and age-appropriate language, while reassuring them that both parents love them very much. In addition, you can try one of the many children’s books available to help you communicate effectively with your child about divorce.
If one parent has moved out of the home, explain to your child when they will see that parent again. Children can often feel reassured when there is a place for them at another home already organised.
Some pre-schoolers maintain hope that their parents will reunite, especially if the divorce is being handled convivially. It’s important to be gentle but clear to children and explain that you and the other parent won’t be living together again in the same house but will always be there for them.
Because young children cannot comprehend the complexity of divorce, they may be concerned that they, too, are going to be divorced from a parent. This is when you will need to provide extra reassurance to your child that you won’t be leaving them, but you just won’t be living in the same house as their other parent again.
Try to keep the routine going
Talking to kids about divorce is especially difficult when you know uncertainty about the future ahead is often a child’s biggest concern. Try to be truthful in answering all of their questions. It is important to your child (especially younger children) that their normal routine is going to be as disrupted as little as possible.
Knowing that Mum is still going to take them to swimming lessons every week and Dad is going to do the school run may seem trivial to you at the time but these little things, if handled properly, can go towards making the bigger picture seem a little less scary. Offer as much child support as you can to cushion the disruption of their routine.
If you are going through the divorce process, there are lots of places you can turn to for support. Look at the government’s website for information about how to talk to kids about divorce and divorce mediation. Once you are ready to take the practical steps towards annulling your marriage, choose a family law solicitor and divorce coach or divorce mediator to take you through the process. If you need emotional support, Relate is also worth a visit and they can help you work out how to tell your child about your divorce.
Going through a divorce when you have young children is a testing time for parents. Practical arrangements need to be made and emotional well-being needs to be a priority too. Taking steps to reassure your child during the process will bolster the innate resilience many children possess.

Mothers Day pamper: best gift Ideas for new mums
Mother’s Day is a day where mum gets to expect a red carpet, breakfast in bed and to be waited on hand and feet throughout the day. Well, this is what one would expect when it’s your first mother’s day, but you’ll quickly cotton on that you’ll have to dictate what you want for your special Mothers Day pamper session if there is to be any kind of special treatment as far as first Mother’s Day gifts are concerned!
So, what are some different things to do on Mother’s Day? Motherhood Diaries has come up with an article containing 40 creative Mother’s Day pamper ideas that I suggest you put forward to your partner and little ones, so they can take a hint – or 39.
1. Book her a hotel room for the night.
One of the great ways to pamper your mum this Mothers Day is to give her the gift of peace. Becoming a mum for the first time is quite the culture shock to your social life, so be prepared for the odd pang of yearning to go out and do something other than stare at the same four walls in the house.
A hotel room for one night where mum can just be a woman and not a baby mother or a wife, does wonders to the mental health. But, if that’s not possible and you can’t separate from the baby, then there are tons of affordable family-centric hotels out there, for example, a 4-star hotel in London that’s affordable, from a considerate and reputable hotel chain such as Dorsett Hotels. Luxury doesn’t always have to come at a premium cost, and a hotel can be family-friendly and fancy all at once.
2. Personalised gifts with her favourite photo uploaded
Photo gifts are great because they can transform everyday objects into something more personalised and special, especially when you add messages on mother’s day that offer a personalised experience. Just choose your favourite picture or design (you could use sublimation designs) of whatever you like, and upload it onto an everyday object, like a mug.
Or even have the little ones draw a picture for you and upload, then you’ve got yourself a personalised mug* just for mum. You could pack in mum’s favourite tea or coffee, biscuits, and cakes. Or, for extra man/kiddie points, have your little ones bring her a morning coffee in it – first thing too.
If your kids love all things arty (or just love making a beautiful mess) why not look into having them make something for her? It doesn’t have to be anything too difficult as she probably won’t be expecting the next Michael Angelo’s ‘David’, but she’ll appreciate the thought you’ll have all gone to and it’s something she’ll want to keep forever.
Anything with handprints is a good place to start as it’s really easy and you can make loads of pictures out of them. The kids will no doubt love doing it, too. Add happy first mother’s day quotes to make her smile and the kids’ work of art will be golden.
Pampering relaxation ideas for mum this Mothers Day can include jewellery. Jewellery* is always a winner especially as first Mother’s Day gifts goes. Personalised bracelets* are reasonably priced and you can add the initials of your little ones on the bracelet, or a 1st mother’s day message too. Thinking outside the box like this will definitely earn you some brownie points. I love these personalised bracelets of my children’s names made by Handmade by M7* below!
If you’re thinking about how to pamper mum on Mother’s Day and you’re coming up with blanks then just give her the chance to pamper herself! She’d probably appreciate nothing more than winding downtime, so for a gift that costs nothing, why don’t the rest of the family be in charge of all the responsibilities for the day? Breakfast in bed, a candlelit bath, a three-course meal and a tidy house will make her day (as well as probably leave her gobsmacked). You could watch Mum’s favourite films all day and eat her favourite snacks. Save her some, though!
6. The gift of sleep
Special ways to pamper your mum this Mothers Day can include the gift of sleep. If children are too young to understand and still wake up in the middle of the night, then try to take over some of the shift work. Then allow her a much-needed lie-in, greeting her with number 33 and number 38 ASAP.
7. Grow her own garden
If she’s green-fingered but never gets the chance to go out in the garden, then get her a ‘Grow your own garden’ box which offers her everything needed in a box to grow her own herbs, like this Grow It Herb Garden from The Gift Experience, which includes the flowerpot, the soil and the seeds to grow from scratch.
8. Personalised pocket mirror
Help mum to look her best all hours of the day with a lovely personalised pocket mirror like this engraved dragonfly mirror from The Gift Experience. You can add lovely 1st mother’s day quotes too to add to the special experience.
9. Fix something around the house
I’m sure there are tons of house chores on the to-do list that haven’t been seen yet, like a leaky tap, a hanging door or chipped paint. Give her a Mother’s Day she won’t forget by fixing something in the house which will help her get on with her daily duties more quickly.
10. A clean house
A clean house will make mum really happy so she doesn’t have to spend her special day cleaning up after you guys. But, keep the house clean from now on – no point in just giving her a clean house for one day then destroying it afterwards!
11. Her favourite takeaway and movie
Mum will probably be tired after a long day. And, perhaps, she hasn’t had the chance to take Mother’s Day off to do something she really likes. So why not feed her a favoured takeaway and movie that she can enjoy in peace? If the movie is child-friendly, invite the whole family to watch and spend some much-needed family time together.
12. Bake her goodies
Mum loves an at home pamper pamper day full of gifts made with love, especially if it’s from her favourite people. Bake her some special goodies, like cookies or even a Mother’s Day cake and put it in a nice gift basket – but clean the kitchen afterwards so you don’t stress her out!
13. Write her a letter

Sometimes mums just need to be heard and acknowledged.
20. Go on a picnic
Just like 18, you don’t need to go out, but a hot picnic prepared by someone else other than mum might be all she needs to have a special Mother’s Day. If the weather is nice, either head out to the garden or go to the nearest park and enjoy a lovely family picnic with mum on Mother’s Day.

This present might be a bit controversial, but make it clear you’re only getting her a gym membership because maybe she has talked about going to the gym, but has not had the chance to take out a membership yet. It won’t be because she needs it. No need to make mum feel fat on Mother’s Day!

Other questions asked were:
How do I pamper my mum on Mothers Day?
Creating a nice spa experience for your mum at home is a wonderful way to show her love and appreciation. Here’s how you can transform her space into a relaxing retreat:
Prepare the Atmosphere: Start by tidying up the space where the spa day will take place, typically the bathroom. Light scented candles or use an essential oil diffuser with calming scents like lavender, chamomile, or sandalwood. Play soft, soothing music in the background to set a peaceful mood.
DIY Spa Treatments: Gather ingredients for homemade spa treatments. You can make a simple face mask using natural ingredients like honey, yoghurt, and oatmeal. Prepare a sugar or salt body scrub by mixing it with coconut oil and a few drops of essential oil.
Warm Towels: Soak hand towels in warm water with a bit of essential oil, wring them out, and place them in a slow cooker on low to keep them warm. These can be used to wipe off face masks or just for a warm, soothing compress.
Bath Time Luxury: Draw a bath and add bath salts, bubbles, or a bath bomb. If you have them, scatter flower petals for an extra luxurious touch. Ensure there’s a plush bathrobe and slippers ready for her use afterward.
Spa Stations: Set up different ‘stations’ for her spa day, such as a manicure/pedicure area with a selection of nail polishes, files, and lotions. You could also have a facial station with different masks, serums, and moisturisers.
Refreshment Area: Prepare a small refreshment area with spa-day essentials like cucumber-infused water, herbal teas, and light snacks such as fruit or nuts.
Personal Touches: Write her a sweet note expressing your love, placing it somewhere she’ll find during her spa day. You can also offer to be her personal spa technician, assisting with the application of masks, managing the bath, or simply providing company.
Spa Kit Gift: As a memento, put together a spa kit with mini versions of the products used or crafted during the day, so she can recreate the experience whenever she wishes.
Relaxation Time: Make sure she has uninterrupted time to enjoy her spa day. Take care of any chores that might distract her, allowing her to fully relax and rejuvenate.

You can pick from a Coloured Mug, Magic Mug (where your personalised pictures show up when hot liquid is poured into the mug) and a Latte Mug, which you can see in the image above.
Whiskey Glass Set
A perfect Valentine’s day gift for him could be a whiskey glass set* if he enjoys a tipple or two. There are some lovely personalised whiskey glass sets on Amazon* to choose from and you don’t have to stick to whiskey. You could even go for wine glasses or gin glasses – whatever he likes!
If you want the perfect Valentine’s day gift for men then keep your man trim and looking good with a shaving/grooming kit. My husband spends ages working on his beard and he shaves his head every other day. So, the Braun Series 7 Electric Shaver with Travel Case would be one of my Valentine’s gifts for him, as he’ll fully use it.
A day without the kids
You don’t have to always buy gifts on Valentine’s Day. Ship the kids off to the grandparents or hire a babysitter and take the day together. You could stroll along the park, go to the cinema, enjoy a nice meal together or even stay indoors by yourself and just be together. The point is to claw back that time that made you a couple before kids came along and dashed your chance of any together time.
Whatever your choice, make sure Valentine’s day gifts for men comes from the heart and I’m sure he’ll love them.
If you know of any Valentine’s day men gifts that should make the list then please share in the comments below.
Good luck!

5 Ideas for what to do in sleepovers
If your little ones have decided they’d like a sleepover slumber party, don’t panic! Yes, welcoming over-excited children into your home may sound scary, but you don’t have to think of 100 things to do at a sleepover. If you’re organised, there’s no reason it can’t be an awesome slumber party your child won’t forget. Here are ideas for what to do at sleepovers (that can double up as birthday party ideas, too!)
1. Ideas for what to do in sleepovers – don’t take things too seriously
Laughter and even a tiny bit of chaos are what children at sleepovers usually experience. So when thinking about sleepover ideas, have fun in mind.
Invest in fun toys the children can enjoy, like kids riding on Lamborghinis. If you have the space and the money, then riding in kids’ electric cars is one of the most fun things to do at sleepovers and a great way to burn energy, too.
2. Entertainment
If the children are restless, a good sleepover game can include setting up some board games for entertainment. Monopoly is a really fun game and you can assign someone to look after the money (the banker) while everyone competes to build houses/hotels and monopolise the board.
Other fun things to do at a sleepover regarding entertainment could be to rent the kids’ favourite movies and huddle up with a blanket. A movie before bedtime winds children down and sets them in a bedtime mood, whereas an active board game lifts their energies and enthuses them. Ensure the movie finishes at least an hour before bed so the kids’ eyes settle away from the screen. Too much screen time before bed can make kids go the other way.
If the weather is good, let them play in the garden before the movie and dinner so they can burn that excess energy. You can rent a marquee for a party, but, be sure not to overtire them – overtired kids find it very difficult to put their heads down at bedtime – just ask my two Duracell boys!
3. Dinner time
Getting your little ones to sit around the table is an arduous task at the best of times – this task is only made more demanding when they have several friends staying over. However, keeping energy levels high is important, especially when the kids plan to embark on several adventures throughout the evening.
Thankfully, there are a number of easy-to-prepare meals available, many of which guarantee to provide your children and their friends with the energy and nutrition they need. Grilled veggie kebabs and homemade sweet potato chips are easy to make and help keep kids full and occupied while you take 5 minutes’ rest. Or you can make a cheese sauce and lather over some cauliflower and broccoli, which is a winner in our house.
4. Sleeping arrangements
Not all of us are lucky enough to have several spare guest rooms at hand, so for housing extra guests, it’s important to ensure you have enough bedding. Airbeds and sleeping bags are a great idea, and both are easy to assemble and can be positioned around your child’s room to make the best use of space. These cute little Snuggle Pods from LittleLife are brilliant and take up minimal space, so the kids get to sleep together in one room (when one falls asleep, the rest follow like Dominoes).
5. Put a few rules in place
Unless you want to be kept up all night, it’s important to establish a bedtime curfew. If you provide the little ones with an hour’s warning, you’ll find it a much easier task to send them off to bed when the time comes. If not, you may find hours go by while encouraging them to go upstairs.

Truth or dare games are always crazy
Obstacle course in the bedroom
What are some games to play at a sleepover?
The fun things to do during sleepovers will change slightly depending on age. A simple gathering around with duvets can be enough for younger kids, but older children may need a few target games to work around. Some great sleepover party games can include:
What are some things to talk about at a sleepover?
Fun things to do in sleepovers always include a good ol’ chinwag amongst friends. The great thing, though, is you can chat about anything, but keep an ear out for any topics which may cause some concern, like adult conversations and bullying. You may learn something about your child you didn’t know before, so let them talk! Some good prompts could be:
Lessons in school
Feelings and emotions
Favourite books/TV shows
Talk about other people
Whatever your sleepover party includes, whether it’s for teens or for tweens, make sure it’s a fun one – and relax the rules a little – a fun sleepover is an experience your child will not forget!

A working dad’s tips on managing everything
As a work-at-home mum coming from a corporate background, I am grateful for being able to work on my business around my kids. My husband has a great job too and he can take on the bulk of the financial commitment, while I offer a cushion around the end of living costs.
But regardless of his employment status and both of us being working parents, Hubby still has to flit back and forth during the week, from fatherhood to professional employee (just as working mothers have to do too), and it can’t be easy when he has four children hanging off his suit before he’s even had the chance to eat breakfast.
Being a working dad is hard. Like mums, when fathers get ready for parenthood, they don’t have the pregnancy’s physical changes to help them prepare for parenthood, nor do they factor in the two different people they have to be at work and at home (or work at home/stay at home). So, I had a lengthy conversation with my other half and Hubby has offered some advice for working dads on how he functions as a working father, to achieve as much work/life balance as possible. And, as with many other things in life for working fathers, it isn’t so black and white. Here are a working dad’s tips on managing everything
A working dad’s tips on managing everything – Prepare for work the night before
We’re winging it in the mornings, getting the kids ready for school, while managing two babies, so when hubby is rushing around trying to get his stuff together, the kids have ‘play with Daddy’ in mind. Sometimes, it’s the only Daddy-time they get that day, so it’s natural they want to get as much of him as possible before he leaves in the morning (around 7.30am).
But, this causes a problem for Hubby when he has to prepare for the long and arduous work day ahead. So time management is key here. Hubby prepares for work the night before, so he’s not rushing around in the morning. He gathers all the bits and bobs the night before, so that he can literally pick everything up and leave. That way, dad maximises his time balancing work prep with his kids in the morning, with minimised stress and rushing around.
Spend some time with the other half – and rest!
Hubby works full time, full on hours, so he often gets home around 7.30pm if he’s lucky. There will be times when the dishwasher hasn’t been done or the floor still has food on it. I normally aim to tackle all of those things when the kids are finally asleep, but hubby takes it upon himself to clean up anything that I haven’t done. It can sometimes be a small task, but the effect it has on me is astounding.
With hubby’s help, we’re done and on the couch by 8.30/9pm, so we can spend some quality time together. Even if we don’t end up spending time with each other, hubby ensures his mind gets some rest, by chilling out, watching some TV, or playing FIFA on the Xbox on some nights!
Leave work at work
So much easier said than done, but if hubby has had a bad day at work, the vibe is overwhelming when he (unintentionally) brings that stress home. So, he tries to sort the issue(s) away from home, at least, when the kids are up. If they’re asleep, then venting and talking to me about any issues he had at work can be therapeutic for him.
The lines can be blurred when hubby becomes work at home dad, but kids don’t need to feel the stress and anger in Daddy’s voice, especially if he’s snapping at them about something totally unrelated to their behaviour. It’s just not fair and it doesn’t do anyone any good. Leave work at the front door and pick it up again the next morning.
Delegation is diamond!
At work, Hubby manages a team of people, whom he often delegates tasks to his employees. He also can hire people, so he needs to have the right people on the job, which means he does the due diligence, undertakes background check prices and hires the right employee for the job. Taking this part of the role seriously means he can leave work at work, knowing he has the right people on the job when he’s at home.
Dress sharp
Whether we like it or not, Hubby is a representative of our family – we do carry his last name after all. So, when Hubby accompanies me to school activities where he gets to meet the teachers, I know those teachers are making snap judgements on our family.
You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but as Hubby dresses smart, people tend to treat him in a more professional way. Of course, he’s not always donning a suit and tie everywhere he goes, but he will still try to look smart by wearing smart men’s jumpers and jeans. Wool Overs offer some fantastic mens jumpers on sale at the moment, which are super smart and office-worthy. Hubby wears them a lot and I think he looks rather dapper in them.
The children follow our example, so if we dress and act smart, they will likely end up doing the same.
Be proud of being a working dad and all you do for the family
What responsibilities should a working father and husband have if his wife stays home?
There is no one rule on how the roles should work, even if you’re a dad working from home or you’re a full time dad at home. It is best to first talk roles together to decide how to divide-and-conquer managing finances, kids and related topics and then just trial and error it until you find a medium that works.
Should working dads help with night feeds?
They can, but I thought it would be better for Hubby to get some sleep so, even though daddy is working during the day, he is 100% there and engaged with the kids when he comes home and to do that, he needs sleep! But, everyone’s account of how they deal with life during the night will be different, so go with what works best for your family.

15 cute ways to tell the kids about your engagement
When a couple shares that they are getting engaged, it is often the first time the kids find out about their new additions or how serious the relationship really is. But what do you say to the kids? How do you tell them about your engagement? And how do you plan an announcement for the kids without scaring them or making them feel left out? Here 15 fun, cute and clever engagement announcement ideas to help you tell the kids.
Know your audience
Should you make a video of you getting down on one knee?
Announce it in front of everyone at your child’s school assembly?
Buy the newspaper space from the shop and print an obituary for yourself titled “R.I.P. Mum”?
These are jokes, obviously.
But there is nothing wrong with wanting to be creative or even trying some fun ways to engage your kids into knowing their family is going to be expanding soon. For example, if your kids are excited about prom, you might want to check out the Prom Dress Finder to involve them in the fun activities leading up to the engagement. Additionally, if you are planning to capture and share your wedding moments, consider using Wedding Photo Swap to easily share photos with family and friends.
But there is nothing wrong with wanting to be creative or even trying some fun ways to engage your kids into knowing their family is going to be expanding soon.
Anything is OK, as long as you know who your audience is so you know whether the type of announcement you’re going for will resonate with your kids.
Prepare your kids
Make a list of your child’s closest friends and other family members they know well. Once you have compiled the list, write down how they would like to be told about the engagement.
Would they prefer a door knock after school? Would they like to see an online social media post like on TikTok or an Instagram reel? Would they prefer it if you made a video or an engagement announcement to friends in person at an upcoming family gathering?
Be sensitive to their feelings–make sure it is something that will not cause too much embarrassment or shame. Put your ideas to paper so you can come up with some cute ways to announce engagement to the kids while preparing them for questions so you can answer with well-rehearsed responses.
Telling the kids
Whether you will announce your engagement in the flesh or via facetime on Skype, lots of little ones will be excited at the thought of getting dressed up, taking part in the wedding day and taking care of the wedding planning checklist, but some may be more confused about what’s going on. Make sure you explain what getting married to your partner means and show them there will be even more love to go around after the big day. If your kids are struggling with the concept, make sure you listen to their concerns about the new life you’ll all have together.
Educating yourself about the different ways to announce your engagement will allow you more freedom when coming up with creative ways to tell the kids. You want to choose something fun that will make your children happy.
So how can you get creative/funny/clever with your announcement engagement ideas?
Creative engagement announcement ideas to family
The best engagement announcements are unique, so here’s how to announce engagement really creatively:
1. Ultra cute super fun engagement announcement photos ideas – go professional
Get your engagement photoshoot captured on camera by a professional photographer and then have some fun with the engagement announcement photos. For example, you could dress up like Batman and The Joker if the kids are into Batman and use a suitable backdrop to make it look realistic. Or you can wear a matching bandana with a message on it to send the message in such a unique way. Then, when you’re done you can take a classic engagement selfie together or an engagement ring shot with your partner.
2. Unique ways to announce an engagement – play dress up
Another option is to dress up as a princess and your fiancé as the prince. Be creative with the costumes and choose something that will reflect your kids’ personality or interests.
3. Creative ideas for the best engagement announcement – create a personalised book
One fun idea is to create a personalised book where you can record memories from the kids’ fun time together with your partner, for example, when they played together and talk about how much they mean to you. This will help them feel special about being in your life and they may feel proud of what you have achieved in life with your partner.
Funny engagement announcements
Laughter is the best medicine, so to soften the blow or enhance the glorious news, here are some fun ways to announce engagement to the kids while conjuring up a laugh or two.
4. Special ways to announce your engagement to the world – Make a funny video
The sillier the better, but make sure it is something you would like to put on your future wedding DVD and show at family get-togethers.
5. DIY Engagement Announcement – Get arty
Get involved with or create an art project that represents your engagement in a fun way. For example, paint yourselves into a mural holding hands or making bird cages together.
Cute engagement announcement ideas
Funny and clever can also mean cute, so here are some cute engagement announcements ideas (as well as clever engagement announcements) which should go down well with the kids:
6. Unique and sweet ways to announce your engagement – Write sweet messages
Write messages on balloons and let them fly into the sky for all to see. You could even write engagement messages on sand pails at your local beach/park.
7. How to announce an engagement on social media – create a website and share
Create an announcement of engagement on a wedding website or blog to share with friends and family.
8. Creative in-person non social media announcement ideas
Kids can help bake some cookies (or cupcakes) with little hearts stamped out of the centre. Or pick up a box of Valentine sweets and put your engagement picture on there.
9. Photo projection enlarged!
Take your engagement photo and project it onto a wall or billboard in a very public place, or create an announcement mural on the bottom of two shoes you’re wearing while standing next to each other (to cover your faces so people don’t think they are missing an episode of ‘The Bachelor’)
10. Cute puzzles messages!
Write out messages with hearts cut out of cardboard and create a puzzle that spells out your engagement in an envelope or box
11. Make it memorable
Talk with your significant other about what works best for both of you and then get ready, because once you’ve invited everyone over, all eyes will be on your memorable announcements!
Fun engagement announcement photo ideas for social media platforms
Kids are living in the digital age, so announcing engagement ideas can involve sharing with others on social media after you’ve told the kids. You can think of some cool ways to announce engagement on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that the kids can relate to. Here are some tips on how to announce your engagement on social media.
12. Creative ideas for the best engagement announcement – use hashtags
Include fun hashtags and creative spelling so people can see you’re having a good time. Be sure to use the same hashtag on all of your engagement announcement posts within that day so that more people search for it and find you.
13. Unique ways to announce your engagement on social media – ask for help from friends
If you don’t have a professional photographer, ask close friends or relatives to take pictures of your engagement with their phones and then share them on Facebook/Twitter. It’s a really cool way of announcing an engagement in today’s digital age.
Make sure there is an option available for the children to leave comments as well – this way they feel like part of the big event taking place. After receiving many ‘likes’ on social media, they might even be excited about the expanding immediate family.
Engagement announcement wording ideas
14. Cute engagement announcement ideas you’ll want to copy – write a short letter
Many online etiquette guides suggest you shouldn’t share the exciting news with your kids straight away, but wait until they ask about it themselves. However, if you want to come up with more creative engagement announcements, why not put together a short letter to them or word your social media posts in such a way that the kids are also involved? Below is an example of how you can do this:
“We were so happy when BFFs [friend’s name] suggested we all go on holiday together! We had such a great time as friends, but somehow ended up falling in love. Beaming from ear to ear! We thought you should know first because we couldn’t wait to tell you! We’re engaged!
Love always, Mummy”
Engagement announcement quotes
15. The loved up engagement announcement – Include some quotes
Include some personal engagement announcement quotes for your children if they are particularly young. What sort of relationship do they have with their step-parent? Are they excited about welcoming a new member into the family? Engagement announcement ideas for parents should include how your kids feel about the whole thing too.
Examples of engagement announcement quotes for kids:
“When two people are meant for each other, no time is too long, no distance is too far, and no one can ever take them apart.”
Richard Bach
“They say that nothing lasts forever, but as long as I have you, I’d like to try.”

“[Your name] and [Their name] are just two perfect puzzle pieces fit together so well.”

Create the wedding of your dreams or hold back?
You’re entitled to the perfect wedding, and even a fancy engagement party or celebration, but some brides and grooms decide to tone things down, even the wedding dress or the suit because they’d rather save money to spend on their kids. Weigh up the pros and cons of enjoying family-orientated luxurious weddings and try to find something that suits both your fantasy and your family. Whether you check out these diamond engagement rings for sale and buy a princess dress or prioritise a holiday for the little ones, know that your decision is completely valid.
Allow your children to have some input
Your children will feel special if you ask for their opinions on wedding invitations, wedding ideas, wedding dates and preparations. Try not to let them make big decisions about the décor, wedding cake or food but if you’re having trouble deciding between the balloons, the type of flowers, or even the lovely flower quotes you’ll add, your kids will be more than happy to point at their favourites. If other wedding guests are bringing their kids too, consider putting on some entertainment to keep them occupied.
Honeymoon
Are you going to have a honeymoon for just you and your partner or take the kids along? While having alone time with your significant other can really boost your relationship status, you don’t want the kids to feel left out. If possible, try to have the best of both worlds and take a short break with both. You can ask your family or friends to make a special fuss over your children while you’re away with just your partner so they’ll have a great time too and not miss you too much when you’re gone.
Getting engaged is a positive occasion and one which should be celebrated with your children. The bottom line is that your children’s happiness should factor very heavily in your decision making, as they will be deeply involved in the blended family dynamics. Opting to announce your engagement in a way which the children can enjoy will help them to accept the changes and look forward to the joyous wedding ahead.

And, since your sleep habits are skewed, you may find you have trouble drifting to sleep when your head hits the pillow, especially if you’re a new parent (it’s a learning curve that all experienced and new mums go through with their babies that not even a comfy mattress and pillow can diminish).
Not getting enough sleep isn’t just limited to parents, it affects family life and mental health; whether you’re worrying about work, financial problems (companies like creditfix.co.uk can help you with your debt management, find out more here) or your brain simply won’t switch off. Why is something so simple like falling asleep so difficult now?
Well, you’re having trouble sleeping because your body clock is out of whack. So the aim is to work out how to help mum sleep better at night and fix your body clock so it works around your new normal. The key is consistency, adopting healthy sleep habits as much as you can and arming yourself and your baby with sleep tools that will enhance sleep and maximise heath for sleeping mum and baby.
How much sleep does a mum need?
New mum sleep deprivation is real! But trying to get eight hours of sleep a night right now is unrealistic. So, here are some tips on how to help mum sleep better at night – even during nightly wake-up calls (you should let your baby sleep and wake up naturally unless medically advised).
Reduce your blue light exposure
You may be tempted to browse your phone when you’re feeding your baby, or catch up on emails when you have a spare few minutes to yourself. But, that blue light emitting from all of your screened devices, i.e. smartphone, TV, laptop, tablet etc. is currently tricking your mind into thinking it’s daylight, which makes it difficult to relax and fall asleep. The answer is simple – try to reduce the amount of screen time you’re getting as the day goes on. And at least one to two hours before you head to bed, have no screen time at all.
Alternatively, you can purchase blue-blocking glasses from your opticians or download an app that can help reduce the blue light. Android phones have a natural blue light filter on, which helps. But, you’re better off staying away from the screen completely to help you get the best sleep possible.
Be wary of your caffeine intake
Caffeine is so helpful to keep us going during the day, especially when we’ve been up all night. Yet, so many of us continue to drink it before we go to bed. Caffeine is a stimulant that affects the nervous system and doesn’t allow your body to relax naturally. So, heading to bed a couple of hours after a cup of coffee or a nice cup of tea won’t help you sleep.
Caffeine stays in your bloodstream for around six hours, so one of the best home remedies for good sleep is to cut caffeine out of your day from about 3 pm. This also counts for alcohol, which reduces rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. And the more you drink before bed, the more it affects your sleep.
You may feel like alcohol helps you fall asleep quicker and more deeply for a while, but it isn’t good quality sleep. You’ll wake up drowsy and groggy, which is not what you want when you have a million tasks to get on with as soon as you wake up.
Relax and clear your mind in the evening
Easier said than done, right? But believe it or not, the world won’t fall apart if you don’t get through that pile of laundry or respond to those important emails late at night. Make some time in your evening that is dedicated to rest and relaxation. Whether it’s a relaxing massage – you can do one for yourself or get your partner involved – listening to relaxing music, a gentle podcast, or even reading a book, select your activity and relax! Deep breathing and meditation techniques are also proven to help – check out YouTube for some beginner videos.
Optimise your bedroom
Your bedroom doesn’t always feel like your own, especially when you have little ones. But, if you want to get a good night’s sleep, you need to consider optimising your bedroom environment for sleeping. Ensure your bedroom is a quiet, relaxing, clean and enjoyable place that will allow your mind to associate with rest and relaxation. You might struggle with a waking baby, but as long as your bedroom is somewhere you can retreat to, you’ll get good sleep, even if the amount of rest you get is reduced.
Tools to help you sleep
Below are some great tools from Kally Sleep*, The UK’s sleep specialists, to help you drift off into the land of nod.
Find your perfect pillow
Using the right pillow for you makes all the difference when you can get your head down to sleep. Are you a back sleeper, a side sleeper, front sleeper or do you toss and turn during the night? Take Kally Sleep’s* two-minute pillow finder quiz* and they’ll be able to pinpoint the perfect pillow you need.
If you’re a back sleeper, you’ll need to find the right orthopaedic pillow to help your back align properly and support your head and neck. The Kally Back Sleeper Pillow* is a medium-lofted and medium-soft firmness pillow, so it is ideal for people who sleep on their backs.
Back pain can also arise from the way you sit during the day. If you work from home, you may not be sitting in an optimal position, leading to back problems that stop you from sleeping well at night. The Kally Lumbar Back Support Cushion* provides comfort when you’re sitting down at your desk.
The slow-rebound memory foam provides cushioned support for the spine to ease lower and mid-back pain and pressure on the spine is reduced which promotes for correct spinal alignment too.
If you’re pregnant, use a pregnancy pillow to help you sleep
A pregnancy pillow is a necessity when you’re pregnant and trying to sleep because it helps to realign the spine and provide support for the bump and lower back. My favourite is the U-shaped pillow* which provides support all around.
But don’t throw or give away the pregnancy pillow when you give birth, you can also use the U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow* post-pregnancy for back support, sitting up in bed reading or watching or nursing your baby. The U-shaped pregnancy pillow also helps sufferers of sciatica, fibromyalgia, arthritis, gastric reflux and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Help baby transition from mum’s womb to cocoon in their new bed by easing the gap from crib to cot with a baby nest. We’ve used a Baby Nest* with our two girls and it has worked so well to calm them down and keep them cosy during sleep.
The Kally Baby Nest* is a multi-functional cocoon that keeps the baby safe and comfortable during supervised naps and tummy time. The Baby Nest* comes with a pillow and pillow cover, and a blanket too. I would recommend buying a Baby Nest from Kally Sleep*because it keeps baby safe and comfortable during sleep and playtimes.
A comfortable duvet can mean you’re not too hot or cold when you’re covered up at night. And if you’re fighting for duvet space, it might be worth getting one for you and another for your partner. So if you like your duvet warm and they like their duvet cold, there’s no fight in the middle of the night thanks to The Warm and Cool Duvet which allows for climate control by having a different tog rating on each side.
On the warm side the tog rating is 7 which means you can experience a refreshing sleep without waking up too hot and sweaty. The opposite side has a tog rating of 14 so if you feel cold this side will no doubt keep you warm throughout the night.
Use a sports recovery pillow for sports injuries
If you exercise, sleep is one of the most important tools in life for muscle recovery because it helps prevent injury and enhances performance. But if you’re not sleeping properly or you have suffered an injury, then lack of sleep can prolong recovery time. Using a Sports Recovery Pillow* designed by sporting experts can help reduce the pressure placed on affected joints and helps to reduce pain and discomfort. The Sports Recovery Pillow can also speed up muscle recovery and growth.
Your sleep cycle may be skewed, and you’re getting much less sleep than you did previously. But, adopting better sleep habits and following the tips above will help you maximise the rest you can have, even if it’s broken.
