Tips on how to create great video for social media

Ordinarily, a post on how to create great video for social media would be directed towards my fellow bloggers. I ventured towards the world of Vlogging (video blogging) a while ago now and I must say that I enjoyed the transition. However, I’m not great at being in front of the camera and I am not one of those who pays too much attention to their surroundings or presentation. Thankfully, the world of social media allows for a diverse, yet short, sharp and effective video content that people can engage in. Just look on Facebook, where you can find lots of great unique videos, some of which go viral within minutes and reach millions of viewers. I am a mum with a passion for cooking and three boys (including hubby) who are always hungry and never full, so I want to share my favourite and most successful recipes that only contain five ingredients, cost less than £5, and that kids love to eat every time. So, I did my research on how to create great looking videos for my social media following, and, the steps below are for everyone who is interested in taking videos and publishing on social media:

Decide what your video will be about

It’s great to have a topic in mind and what you plan to say or do in it. For example, within online parenting communities, parents may want to talk about breastfeeding, pregnancy itself, or baby led weaning. If you want to create a recipe video, you should keep to creating the recipe process and not veer into much else. So, videoing how you make a great spaghetti dish, and then talking about breastfeeding, may seem interesting to those mums who breastfeed and cook at the same time, but what about the larger audience who just wanted to tune in and watch you make a spaghetti? They don’t want to hear how successful or arduous your breastfeeding journey was. So, stick to a topic, unless you have adequately titled your video, “General talk about general stuff”, or something along those lines. Getting help from a video booth hire in London can make your video stand out and look more professional too.

It’s helpful to think about who your ideal audience is and create video just for them. What can you teach them? What would they gain out of your video? Are you fulfilling a need? Showcase what you’re good at, but keep it short and sharp! Anything over 3 minutes is just too long.

Ideas on videos can be:

  • Educational
  • A product review
  • A recipe video
  • FAQ videos
  • Haul videos
  • Comedy sketches
  • A day in the life…

Make your title stand out

Just like how I have created a title for this article, your video title should have the same effect, i.e. to pull people in right from the offset. A great title can instantly grab a viewer’s attention and the keywords within that title will show up on search engines like Google and YouTube, so your video can be viewed by a larger audience and gain better engagement.

Create some kind of Call to Action

A ‘Call to Action’ is simply getting the viewer to act at the end of the video. This can range from asking them to like the video, subscribe to your channel, or to check out other videos. You don’t need to sell something, just take them somewhere else, so their journey with you doesn’t end at just your video.

Publish and Promote your content

If you are a blogger or online content creator, you would want to ensure your video is promoted across all your affiliated social media channels, to widen your audience. However, if you are a parent who wants to show your family your new video of your baby, you can publish on YouTube and share on your personal Facebook/Twitter page. The video then can be enjoyed by your online audience too.

Consider using a professional to film your videos

If you can spare the money, there’s nothing like a professionally filmed and edited video for your brand or business. A video production agency can take you from the initial brief all the way to an edited and finished film. There are tons of production agencies in London, so Google ‘Video production London’ and you should be able to find an agency that meets your needs.
