Step one – Head to Amazon to start your baby registry checklist

Head here* to create your universal registry list and click on the yellow, ‘Get Started’ button.

Fill out your name, address, and expected due date of your baby. If you don’t know the due date yet, then just make your best guess as you can change this date at any time. You can also try out our Due Date Calculator to find your due date.

Many items on Amazon are sent out by a third-party seller. If you allow Amazon to share your wishlist delivery, the third-party seller might disclose your address to the gift purchaser. If you decide not to check the first box, loved ones buying the items for you will be required to provide a delivery address to the third-party seller at checkout.

If you decide to check the second box, friends and family will include additional selected items when they order items from your wishlist. If you’ve selected to allow gifts to be delivered from all sellers, these additional gifts will be eligible to be delivered to your wishlist address.

Check the third and fourth boxes if you’d like to be notified by email of gift alerts when items are purchased and when exclusive Wish List discounts become available.

Step 2 – Create your list!

There are two ways you can add to your baby list.

Option 1 – Search for a specific item and add it to the Baby Wishlist

If you have a specific item in mind, you can search for it in Amazon’s toolbar as you normally would.

Click on the item as you would add it to the cart.

Scroll down further from the ‘Add to basket’ and ‘Buy now’ buttons where you will find ‘Add to Baby Wishlist’, You can click on the link and add the item you searched for onto the Baby Wishlist that way.

You then have the option of checking the item as a ‘Must-have item’ or a ‘Private’ item. The ‘Must-have’ item will display a ‘Must-have’ badge to friends and family viewing your Wishlist. If you mark the item as ‘Private’, then only you and the co-owner of the list can see this item.

Option 2 – Search for items to add to the Baby Wishlist page

Head back to your Baby Wishlist (you can find it under ‘Accounts & Lists’ at the very top of the page, next to the toolbar and flag) and click on ‘Add Items’.

You will be offered baby shower gift list ideas to help you create your Baby Wishlist. You can search for a list by clicking on any of these ideas to help you and, for this article, we will click on ‘Customer Favourites’ and research the 11 best-selling and top-rated items for our own Baby Wishlist.

To add to your registry, you just click on, ‘Add to Baby Wishlist’ (you can see the WaterWipes I added using Option 1’s way is already on the list). Once you click on the button, you will see a confirmation that your item has been added to your Baby Wishlist.

Go back and scroll through the other ideas and inspirations to check if there are others you’d like to add and once you’re done, you can share your list!

Step 3 – Share your registry list

Once you’ve completed your registry list and you’re happy with it, click on ‘Share’ on the main menu and copy the link provided to share your wish list with others. You can also click on, ‘Share with social network’ and copy your link that way, so you can send it to your friends and family members however you like.

Step 4 – Make any necessary changes

If your due date has changed or anything else for that matter, you can go into ‘Settings’ in the same navigation bar to change the details that way and save changes. At the bottom of this page, you can also delete your registry if you don’t need it anymore.

The 11 must-have items I would add to my baby shower gift list for guests to buy

I will now create a target baby registry containing the 11 must-have items all parents should add to their online baby wishlist for friends and family to purchase before the big day!

Plus what’s more, this is the baby registry that grows with your family, so as your baby gets older you can add and remove items as you go!

1. Car seat

Car seats are an absolute MUST in your baby shower present list as it’s something you must have before you take your baby home from the hospital. It’s important to note that car seat rules have changed which means that car seats must adhere to the new R129 car seat regulations, i.e. car seats now focus on size, not weight, and have i-Size certification. Make sure to include in your baby shower list online, staples like nappies and wipes. They are super important as you will be using them multiple times a day, every day!

These are technically two items, but as they go hand in hand, I’ve grouped them into one essential bundle.

Start with Size 0 or 1 nappies, although I would recommend Size 1 as Size 0 is for premature babies. You’ll be using cotton wool and water for the first four to six weeks, but after that, I would recommend WaterWipes which we’ve already added to our list above.

7. Sleep Soothing Baby Shower Gifts – Blankets and swaddles

Soothing items are really important to add to your baby registry wish list and you’ll be using them for many other things, like covering your baby when they’re asleep and protecting your clothes when they spit up! So make sure you get something of good quality and is 100% cotton so it withstands the first few years of life.

Swaddles are great because they help baby feel comforted and boost sleep. • Newborn shoes – Babies don’t need shoes until they start walking. Soft booties or socks will suffice and even help keep their feet warm.
• Too many bottles – It’s good to have some bottles to hand, but babies can be picky. They might prefer one brand over another, so it’s best not to stock up until you know what they like
• Fancy nappy bins – Some nappy bins are great at sealing odour and keeping things sanitary, but trash cans with lids can work too, combined with scented nappy bags and they’re cheaper
• Too many toys – Babies don’t need a lot of toys when they’re newborns. A few stimulating and safe toys are plenty.
• Baby powder – Due to potential health concerns and risks of respiratory problems, it’s best to avoid talcum-based baby powders.
• Complicated clothing – Avoid clothes with too many snaps or buttons. Zippers or simple designs make parents’ lives much easier!
• Baby bath with no drain – It’s definitely more convenient to have a baby bath with a drain so you can empty the water more easily
